Aston Villa defender Tryone Mings has excelled since arriving in January.

Aston Villa have completed a remarkable turnaround, and will be heading into the Championship playoffs following a staggering run of form.

After the 1-1 draw at Stoke on February 23rd, Villa were eight points off the playoffs and had won just once in 10 games, leaving fans to give up hope of a top six finish.

However, Villa then won 10 in a row, and can look forward to taking on local rivals West Bromwich Albion in the playoffs, with Dean Smith putting the club in contention for the top flight.

Many players have been key in this 12-game unbeaten run, but defender Tyrone Mings has been a rock at the back following his move from Bournemouth.

Mings’ success is particularly interesting as, when he was brought in on loan, Smith claimed that he would be playing Mings at centre back rather than left back.

Those comments did not go down well, and we covered comments from fans completely baffled at the decision, feeling Mings should have been playing at left back instead of Neil Taylor.

Fans slammed the decision at the time, but now love Mings, praising his performances on Twitter whilst calling for a permanent deal, with even Taylor enjoying a strong run of form of late.

Smith’s decision left some baffled, but it’s really paid off, with Mings proving to be colossal in the Villa back line – and it’s masterstrokes like this which will give fans confidence that Smith can take Villa back to the Premier League.
