Dean Jones has told Give Me Sport that having spoken to people in and around Arsenal, the club are “sceptical” over a move to sign Atletico Madrid and Portugal attacker Joao Felix – despite his impressive showing at the World Cup.
Felix, 24, became the world’s third-most expensive player when he completed a £108million move to Atletico Madrid. But he has failed to prove his transfer fee, scoring 33 goals and laying on 18 assists in 129 games in all competitions.
This season, he has managed just four goals in 18 games for Atleti. But he impressed at the World Cup, scoring one and laying on two assists in his four appearances. His long-term future under Diego Simeone seems to be in doubt.
90Min report that Arsenal have been offered the chance to sign Felix – along with Chelsea. But Jones has spoken to those in and around the club and the feeling he gets, over a move for Felix, is that Arsenal are not fully convinced.
“I’ve seen a lot about Arsenal becoming the most serious contenders for him. But the people I speak to around the club do seem slightly sceptical about that happening,” Transfer insider Jones reported, to Give Me Sport.

Arsenal could do with another body in attack. Especially, one that can play up top. But with Gabriel Jesus likely to be back in the region of March or April, they need a player that can also play out wide or in the 10 role. Felix is perfect.
The Gunners already wanted to sign a winger given their lack of cover for Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. Felix can do that. He can play as a 10 when Mikel Arteta wants to use a playmaker. And, can be used as a false nine. Ideal.
