Clinton Morrison thinks Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg could still secure a transfer from Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.

But the former striker is ‘surprised’ that a deal could happen between Tottenham and Manchester United for the hard-hitting midfielder.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, whilst he started Tottenham’s EFL Cup defeat to Fulham on Tuesday, hasn’t started a Premier League game for Ange Postecoglou this term.

And Morrison thinks, if a move to Old Trafford is on the cards, then the 28-year-old ‘doesn’t have the legs’ to provide what Erik ten Hag needs in the middle of the park, as he told Soccer Special on Sky Sports (29/08/23 at 7:10 pm).

After starting the new Premier League campaign in an uncompromising manner, there is talk of Man United bringing fresh legs to their midfield, with Hojbjerg a player they are looking at.

Some would argue, if he can’t get into Spurs’ team, what value would he add to Man United, as Morrison shared his thoughts.

“He played against Fulham, so who knows, that deal might still happen by Friday,” said Morrison.

“He wasn’t even getting into Tottenham’s team. They have started the season brilliantly. Sarr and Bissouma have been outstanding.

“There was a lot of talk of Hojbjerg moving on in the summer and that move hasn’t probably materialised yet.

“He’s a good player. Is he the one Man United need? I am not quite sure. I thought Amrabat. He doesn’t have the legs. He is a good footballer, but I don’t think he has legs. It would be a good addition to the squad, but I don’t think it’s the right player for Man United. I would be surprised if that deal happened. But it could now possibly happen.”

Hojbjerg should leave Spurs

Postecoglou has made his feelings clear towards the Denmark international and it wouldn’t have been helped by the team’s recent loss at Fulham – it was claimed that Hojbjerg is one of three players who could get his manager sacked.

Given the attacking bite, athleticism, bite and energy Postecoglou has added to Spurs’ midfield, it is going to make life difficult for Hojbjerg to earn regular starts because that isn’t his game.

Plus, Rodrigo Bentancur is going to return from injury pretty soon and he will push Hojbjerg further down the midfield pecking order.
