Tim Sherwood has claimed that any deal for Tottenham and Chelsea transfer target, Anthony Gordon, seems to be ‘dead in the water’, ahead of transfer deadline day, as he told Sky Sports News about the Everton star.
The former Spurs boss added that Gordon felt that he was ‘still going to Chelsea’ over the weekend when Everton recorded a 1-1 draw at Brentford.
Gordon scored for Everton during that game and he was at it again for Frank Lampard’s side on Tuesday night when they picked up another point, this time against Leeds United.
At 21-years-old, the all-action winger is progressing at a fast rate, with Chelsea willing to put £60 million on the table for the player and their London rivals also trying to hijack the deal, as claimed by Give Me Sport journalist, Paul Brown.
Despite all of that talk in recent times, Gordon has put his head down and started the new Premier League season in a pretty strong fashion for his boyhood club.
Nonetheless, Sherwood thinks he will be donning Everton colours by the time the transfer window slams shut on Thursday night.
“It seems a bit like a scatter gun approach in the way Chelsea are going about their business,” said Sherwood. “Certainly with the Anthony Gordon deal. That looks like it’s dead in water. It’s a position they don’t need.
“Things move so quickly in this market and I think Anthony Gordon thought he was still going to Chelsea in that game against Brentford.”
PHENOMENAL GORDON COULD EARN ENGLAND CALL
With the 2022 World Cup around the corner, there are many players hoping to keep their England place at whatever cost, or in Gordon’s case, trying to knock the door down.
If the England U21 international wants to earn that senior call, then he needs to maintain his current form and push Everton up the Premier League table.
A player who can play on either flank, the doors are open for Gordon to earn that call, but that will become a lot clear during these coming months when the first international break – and the final one before the World Cup – kicks in – Danny Murphy labelled the player ‘phenomenal’ on talkSPORT.
Either way, with Richarlison already out of the door at Goodison Park, Frank Lampard can’t afford to lose another important player, especially given that he is trying to rebuild the team.
