Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner has had his say on Stuart Webber’s expected departure to Norwich City.
Webber has been placed on gardening leave by the Terriers, having expressed a desire to leave the Championship’s surprise promotion candidates.
The 34-year-old has been widely tipped to become Norwich’s new director of football.
Wagner, though, remains focused on Town’s pursuit of a first top flight appearance since their 45-year-old boss was in nappies.
“I am not disappointed about this,” Wagner told the Huddersfield Examiner. “This is football business, he [Webber] has made his decision.
“It is merely another opportunity to demonstrate the team are independent from everything around them – it won’t affect the next nine games. Our focus is on something much more important than Stuart Webber.”
Webber arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium from Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2015 and was instrumental in bringing Wagner to the club later that year.
But that didn’t stop the former USA international from taking a dig at his old ally, whom he accused of trying to leave through the back door.
“Everyone knows how important he was in bringing me to the club but it was the chairman who made the decision to appoint me,” Wagner added.
“Stuart did a lot in this job but like everyone who has done something for this club, it would have been nice to leave via the front door. Obviously he has decided to use another door but that is his decision.”
Norwich sacked manager Alex Neil earlier this month and Webber’s anticipated arrival is expected to accelerate to process of finding a replacement for the Scot.

Webber previously tried to recruit Fleetwood Town manager Uwe Rosler before turning to Wagner, leading to speculation in the Sun on Sunday that the pair could finally unite at Carrow Road.
