Speaking to talkSPORT, David Seaman has expressed his disappointment in Arsenal’s decision to sell Emi Martinez to Aston Villa last year.
The Gunners faced something of a goalkeeping dilemma last summer after Martinez had a string of fine performances for the London club.
Edu and Mikel Arteta had to decide between keeping Bernd Leno or Martinez as their number one, and they decided to let the Argentine go to Aston Villa.
What’s been said?
Seaman was talking about the London club’s goalkeeper situation, sharing that he was disappointed when Martinez was sold.
“Do I think Ramsdale would be good? Yeah, he’s a quality goalkeeper – he’s in the England frame – but I’d want both (Ramsdale and Leno) of them there,” Seaman said.
“I was very disappointed when [Emi] Martinez went as we need two quality goalkeepers at the club to test each other.
“They let him go and there was no real pressure on him [Leno]. Getting other goalkeepers is good but if that’s at the price of a top international goalkeeper, I’m not too sure.”

Mistake
A year on, it has to be said that selling Martinez to Villa was something of a mistake.
The goalkeeper has proven himself to be a top-level stopper at this level, while Leno has been rather shaky this term, leading to Arsenal looking for a replacement, with Andre Onana linked.
Perhaps Arsenal wouldn’t need to look at someone like Onana if they had kept hold of Martinez last summer.
