Speaking on the Ornstein & Chapman Podcast, David Ornstein has named Tottenham amongst the clubs who were offered the chance to sign Martin Odegaard on loan this month.

The Norwegian now looks set to join Arsenal on a six-month loan deal, but at one point it seems as though Spurs were keen on him.

“There were some other clubs who were offered him or were in talks with him, Real Sociedad again, Leicester I think might have been mentioned, Spurs and a couple of others, but Arsenal moved pretty decisively and it seems that Edu as technical director is doing a good job again so far.

Tottenham may have missed out on an incredibly talented player here.

It’s no secret that Spurs are in the market for a creative midfielder this month, after all, they’ve been strongly linked with a move for Christian Eriksen, while they could also lose Dele Alli, who reportedly wants to leave.

Odegaard could have been exactly the type of player they needed, and perhaps his talent is best encapsulated by Morten Gamst Pedersen’s comments on him back in 2014.

“For his age he is unbelievable – his knowledge of the game is unbelievable and his technical skills are fantastic. I have never seen a player with so much potential.”

To rub salt in the wound, he now looks set to join Tottenham’s biggest rivals, and if he propels Arsenal up the league table, this will be something of a double blow for Spurs.

Of course, it remains to be seen how he adapts to Premier League football.
