The Athletic journalist David Ornstein has said that there are several people within football who are eager to see Ryan Mason be appointed as Tottenham Hotspur manager.

As Antonio Conte looks set to be on his way out of the club, names such as Mauricio Pochettino, Thomas Tuchel and Vincent Kompany have been linked with the job.

But when David Ornstein was in conversation with the FIVE YouTube channel, he said that many within the game would love seeing Ryan Mason being hired as the new Tottenham Hotspur manager.

David Ornstein on Ryan Mason becoming Tottenham manager

The 31-year-old famously took charge of his boyhood club for the Carabao Cup final in 2020 right after Jose Mourinho was sacked, as Manchester City cruised to a relatively straightforward 1-0 win.

Perhaps that result alongside the mixed bag that was his stint two years ago has soured his reputation amongst fans.

But David Ornstein has said that there are people in football that still feel Ryan Mason would do an excellent job as the new Tottenham manager.

“In the meantime, we saw Ryan Mason do a capable job in the past. He’s very popular at Tottenham and there are people within the game who would like to see him given the opportunity. There will be questions.”

“Does his potential translate into being able to manage Tottenham at this level on a permanent basis? Does he have the staff around him? Can you build a sufficient staff to manage a club at this level and the egos of the dressing room? I really like what I’ve seen of Ryan Mason and what I’ve heard but that will be a big decision for them to make.”

It will be interesting to see how Tottenham fans react to the revelation from David Ornstein as despite how promising Ryan Mason may be, appointing him as the new manager would be undoubtedly risky.
