Tottenham Hotspur simply had to sign a centre back in January and their move to land Radu Dragusin is now looking very impressive.

Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven are Tottenham Hotspur’s first-choice centre back pairing and few in the Premier League can match them.

Romero sets the tone with his aggressive approach whilst Van de Ven has stunned supporters with his blazing speed and superb defending.

Tottenham suffered a nightmare in November though as Romero picked up a suspension – to nobody’s surprise – and Van de Ven suffered injury problems.

Spurs focused on a centre back signing in January and managed to strike a deal for Radu Dragusin.

The Romanian international arrived after showing huge potential with Genoa and he has shown glimpses of his quality.

Breaking into the Spurs team isn’t easy with Romero and Van de Ven around, but he was superb against Manchester City before the end of last season and has impressed at Euro 2024.

David Moyes on Tottenham Hotspur’s Radu Dragusin

Romania fans may have been a little worried about Dragusin’s lack of playing time in the Premier League.

Their star centre back had gone from key man at Genoa to a bit-part role at Tottenham; hardly the ideal preparation for facing Europe’s best.

Dragusin defied those concerns though, turning in some outstanding displays as Romania reached the knockout stages of the competition.

Pundit and former Tottenham midfielder Danny Murphy was left impressed with Dragusin and he was especially brilliant in a 3-0 thrashing of Ukraine in the group stage.

Dragusin has now received praise from David Moyes too, with the former West Ham United boss casting his eye over Euro 2024.

Moyes has picked out his top centre backs from Euro 2024 whilst speaking to The Times.

Moyes noted that former Everton defender John Stones is in contention for a spot in the Euro 2024 Team of the Tournament.

However, Moyes named a number of contenders – including Dragusin.

Moyes put the Tottenham ace in the mix alongside the likes of Manuel Akanji, Aymeric Laporte, Ruben Dias, Pepe and the Arsenal star William Saliba.

“At a European Championship where there has been some fantastic defending and great performances from centre halves, John [Stones] has still stood out — just like he has for England at previous tournaments. He is well in contention to be named in the team of the tournament.”

“There is quite some competition: the outstanding William Saliba of France, the impressive Manuel Akanji of Switzerland and others including Radu Dragusin (Romania), Aymeric Laporte and Robin Le Normand (both Spain), Riccardo Calafiori (Italy) and Rúben Dias (Portugal). Plus Pepe, whose performances at the age of 41 have been nothing short of incredible.”

There are some outstanding names in there – some of the top centre backs in the world right now.

That Dragusin is in that kind of company speaks to his quality and potential, with Tottenham seemingly having a real defensive talent on their hands.

Breaking into the side to start next season is still going to be difficult for Dragusin, but he has done himself no harm with his Euro 2024 displays.
