Henen was said to have snubbed a new five-year deal at Everton.

David Henen has responded to the Everton fan who tweeted him about rumours that he has asked to leave the club in January.

A report in the Daily Star, which cited reports in France, claimed that Henen has rejected a new five-year deal at Goodison Park, amid interest from several clubs from across the channel.

According to the article’s author, Paul Brown, on Twitter, the 20-year-old looks set for Lille when the transfer window reopens, and Brown’s tweet was then forwarded to the player by another user, who added: “£15g a week not good enough?”

But Henen replied: “Hello mate, it’s so funny because I don’t know what they’re talking about.”

And the Belgian added shortly after: “From the first day.. my decision to have sign to Everton it’s because I love this club and the people in this club . It’s not about money !

Henen arrived at Everton on an initial season-long loan in 2014 and signed a three-year deal the following summer, taking him until the end of next season.

The former Anderlecht player is yet to make an appearance for the Toffees, however, and spent time on loan to League One side Fleetwood Town last season.

In response to Wednesday’s speculation, the Liverpool Echo Earlier later reported that Everton have no intention of selling Henen, but could allow him to leave on a temporary basis.
