Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez has had a mixed time of things at Anfield since his £75 million transfer from Portuguese side SL Benfica.
Jurgen Klopp decided that Darwin Nunez was the right man to lead the line for Liverpool after his side failed to win the Premier League title in the 2021-22 season with the Uruguayan forward viewed as the man to play a big role for the Reds.
Since then, Nunez has had two mixed seasons at Anfield with 15 goals in his debut campaign and 18 in the season after that, which sounds like an impressive return but it hasn’t always been plain sailing for the young forward.
Nunez has received criticism throughout the season due to his struggles in front of goal and his future at the club is certainly unclear under new manager Arne Slot.

Nunez on social media abuse
It was a difficult end to the season for Nunez who scored just one goal from 13 appearances for the Reds and he has admitted he couldn’t look online because of the abuse he was receiving on a daily basis.
“From the moment you start playing and until you retire, there will always be someone who will criticise you,” he said, as per The Athletic.
“I avoid reading those comments. Before I did look at them a lot and it affected me. Whoever says that those negative comments do not affect them is lying. Negative comments that are directed towards you will always affect you.
“Now I’m not looking at anything, not even the good stuff. If a game goes badly for me, I rely on my family. I try to laugh with my family and not show my son the anger I have. What happened in the game is already there and there is always revenge.”
Nunez’s future
The forward will certainly have to impress the incoming manager Slot, who HITC understands signed a three-year contract with the Anfield club.
Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was full of praise for the forward back in March when he was in hot goalscoring form.
“He had absolutely more than an OK first season but he had to adapt, that’s done, and he is settled in the middle of the team,” Klopp told the BBC. “He loves to play for this team together with these boys and has quality coming out of his ears, to be honest.
