Danny Murphy claimed on talkSPORT that reported Tottenham and Everton target, Danny Ings, has been ‘tapped up’.
The Southampton striker, who has one year left on his current deal, has rejected a new contract, according to The Athletic, and Murphy thinks someone has been in his ear.
The 28-year-old has had injury problems in the past, but that has stopped the likes of Everton and Spurs from expressing an interest in the player, according to the Sunday Mirror.
Given his past injury record, claims that he was offered the best contract in Southampton’s history, Murphy thinks there can only be one reason behind his choice to not sign on the dotted line.
“With the injuries that he has had, I find it strange that with a year left he’s not signing that contract,” said Murphy
“I think there can only be two reasons. One, that it’s not quite right, which needs a new few bits. But that doesn’t sound right because if it’s the best offer they have put forward to any player in their history then it’s going to be pretty good dough.
“It sounds like he has been tapped up. I cannot see any other scenario other than he’s been tapped up. Why else wouldn’t he sign?
“He has had the injury problems you have had. You are 28-years-old. He’s earnt okay. This is the contract that is going to make him. He’s been tapped. I cannot see any other way.”

Given these rumours, it’s going to be interesting to see how the interested parties, such as Spurs and Everton react and whether they stick their neck out to lure him towards their direction this summer.
Everton have Dominic Calvert-Lewin as their main number nine and Spurs have Harry Kane – both of whom are England’s two strikers at Euro 2020.
But given the rumours going around about Kane, and whilst Spurs fans might not like to hear it, they may have to look for other options if they lose their star man.
As for Everton, they don’t need to replace Calvert-Lewin, but their forward line would have serious spice if Ings is added to the mix.
