Gareth Bale’s comments earlier this week seemed to hint that he won’t be returning to Tottenham next season, but his agent’s follow-up statement hints that a deal may still be on the cards.
Of course the Welshman was going to say his plan was to return to his parent club, he’s got nothing concrete in place up yet, and they are still his chief employers.
However, that doesn’t mean that Tottenham can’t bring him back. Alasdair Gold says that they have first refusal on bringing Bale back next term, and they can bring him back on the exact same terms that have at the moment.
“I can just say what I know, at the time I reported this, and I checked into it again today to confirm, and I’m still led to believe that it’s the case that Tottenham do have a first option on a second-season loan, so they have first dibs on taking him again, and from what I understand, it’s on the same terms as this season, which if I remember correctly is roughly around 40-45 per cent of his wages, which is terrific, it is a really good deal,” Gold said
Gold describes this as a really good deal, and to be fair, he’s right.
Bale may not have lit up the Premier League how we expected him to, but in recent weeks he’s looked back to his best.
It often takes players a while to get up to speed and with Bale playing so little football in recent years at Real Madrid, it makes sense as to why he wasn’t able to hit the ground running.

However, he’s now starting looking like the Bale we all know and love, and Spurs mustn’t waste the opportunity they’ve got.
Yes, Bale didn’t make the impact everyone had hoped when he came in, but he’s back looking sharp, and he’s probably only going to look sharper the more he plays.
There isn’t a long pre-season to throw him off his stride, with the Premier League confirming that next season is to begin in August, and with the Euros in the summer, he should be able to maintain his level of fitness.
Spurs have done the hard work in helping Bale get back up to speed, and in order to harbour the fruits of their labour, Daniel Levy has to make the most of the option he has to keep the Welshman at the club next season.
