Adama Traore could regret snubbing a reported move to Tottenham Hotspur in January, as AS now report he already faces an uncertain future at Barcelona beyond his loan transfer.
Antonio Conte desperately sought to add the Spanish winger to his Spurs ranks in the mid-season sales. Dean Jones even claimed Traore had agreed to sign a four-year contract with the north Londoners, which Mundo Deportivo also reported featured a life–changing salary.
But a return to the Camp Nou was too good for the 26-year-old La Masia product to refuse. So, Traore joined Barcelona on loan from Wolves for the rest of the season, in a deal with a €30m (£25m) purchase option. Yet the Blaugrana are still unsure if they want to trigger it.
Traore already has uncertain Barcelona future after snubbing Tottenham transfer
Traore has been an instant hit at Barcelona since snubbing a transfer to Tottenham from Wolves for the Blaugrana. Xavi Hernandez has started the eight-cap dynamo in five of his six appearances across all competitions so far. He has also provided four assists to date.
But his creative efforts and featuring in all available games has not yet convinced the Camp Nou hierarchy to spend. Instead, the Catalan giants will take more time to study triggering their option to buy, given their continued delicate finances and wish to sign Erling Haaland.
Barcelona can effectively lower the €30m (£25m) fee to zero by selling Trincao to Wolves in the summer. The Portuguese is on loan at Molineux and likewise has a €30m (£25m) option in his terms. Wolves will also have to pay the Blaugrana €6m (£5m) if they elect not to buy.
It is unlikely Trincao returns, however, as Sport report he will complete a permanent move to Wolves. AS additionally believe Barcelona also intend to purchase Traore so long as their finances allow a transfer to keep the star Joe Cole calls ‘dangerous’ and Tottenham wanted.
