Ian Wright pointed out how ‘dangerous’ Harry Kane and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg proved Tottenham Hotspur could be during their 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in the north London derby on Sunday.
The former striker highlighted a moment when Hojbjerg was aggressive without the ball, nicked the ball off Oleksandr Zinchenko and put in a cross to Harry Kane where he forced Aaron Ramsdale into a save.
The issue Antonio Conte’s side had was that, once again, they were too late to the party.
They can come from 2-0 behind to beat Bournemouth or fall behind on three occasions to beat another relegation-threatened team, Leeds United.
But it’s a different story when you are facing the best team in the land and one that is sitting eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
Once again, it was another disappointing performance from Spurs, but Wright did highlight how Conte’s side can ‘hurt you’ if you lose concentration at the back, as he told Premier League Productions (15/01/23 at 6:50 pm).
“I think this is a kind of finish from Son where he needs a little bit more guile,” said Wright. “Not so much power, but a little bit of a dink. Something you can lift over him.
“Then this was a mistake from Zinchenko, this was a great cross (from Hojbjerg), we have to give him that. The problem Harry (Kane) has got there is that he is too far past the first post to try and get his flick to the other side, so the goalkeeper is in a very good position and he makes the same quite easily.
“It showed how dangerous Tottenham could be. Again, it was a good save from Harry Kane. It was the kind of performance where if you did lose a bit of concentration, then Tottenham have got the kind of players where they can punish you. Then that was a great save (Ramsdale v Sessegnon).”
TOTTENHAM GOING BACKWARDS
Around six months ago, Arsenal were losing at Tottenham and near-on ending their chances of securing Champions League football.
Spurs were flying high and looking up, rather than behind them.
Yet, fast forward to the present and its night and day between the two North London clubs.
Conte is out-of-contract in the summer, Kane has less than 18 months left, and there are question marks over who they are going to bring in during the transfer window, all of which just further indicate that the club is going backwards.
