Crystal Palace wanted to sign Matty Cash back in 2019 before he eventually completed a £16m move to Aston Villa in 2020.

The 25-year-old became an immediate hit at Villa Park after the south Londoners missed out on his services, with The Sun claiming that Everton were also keen along with Crystal Palace.

Now, a decision from Unai Emery in the Midlands should give Patrick Vieira encouragement to resurrect his side’s 2019 interest in Cash.

What’s the story?

Well, Emery has opted to field Ashley Young at right-back since replacing Steven Gerrard, leaving Cash on the sidelines.

The Spaniard has overseen a strong start to life at Villa Park, although from the outside looking in, it seems a strange decision given the fact the Poland international was named Aston Villa’s Player of the Season last term.

Vieira is in desperate need of a new right-back at Selhurst Park, with only the declining Joel Ward and Nathaniel Clyne available to him, as well as the severely injury prone Nathan Ferguson.

Therefore, Cash’s situation at Villa Park should encourage the Frenchman to test the waters with an offer, as Emery seemingly doesn’t rate the Aston Villa No.2 enough to start him on a weekly basis.

Aston Villa could charge Crystal Palace a lot for Matty Cash

If the Eagles are planning another swoop for Cash, it could cost them a lot of, well, cash.

The Slough-born defender only recently signed a new five-year contract back in April, so the Villans find themselves in a strong negotiating position.

However, the longer Cash is left on the bench, the more likely it is that he himself will want to leave, which would make things easier for Crystal Palace – only time will tell what happens for sure.
