Crystal Palace have reportedly submitted a club-record £30 million bid for Torino and Serie A defender Perr Schuurs while offering the Dutchman a four-year contract in the Premier League.

After years of limping along on a limited budget, Crystal Palace owner Steve Parish has shown a willingness to loosen the pursestrings somewhat in recent windows.

In 2021, Marc Guehi joined form Chelsea for £18 million. Cheick Doucoure arrived for a similar fee around 12 months later.

But breaking their transfer record for Perr Schuurs – a player who has attracted the interest of Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Paris Saint-Germain and more in the recent past – would represent an altogether greater, more expensive statement of intent.

Crystal Palace make huge Perr Schuurs bid

According to DAZN Italia reporter Orazio Accomando, Crystal Palace have offered £30 million. A fee that would make former Ajax youngster Schuurs the biggest signing in Eagles’ history, overtaking Christian Benteke in the history books.

Accomando adds that Palace are also offering Schuurs a four-year contract. Roy Hodgson’s side hope to secure the 23-year-old’s signature ‘in the next few hours’.

Things might not be quite that simple, however. There could still be a few more twists in the tale before Palace get their fairytale ending.

Tuttosport reported as recently as Monday that Schuurs would prefer a move to Liverpool over Crystal Palace. What’s more, fellow suitors West Ham United have an ace up their sleeve in the shape of Nikola Vlasic.

Vlasic excelled on loan at Torino last season. And the Hammers could reportedly offer the Croatian schemer as a makeweight in a deal that would see Schuurs end up at the London Stadium instead.

Suggestions that Crystal Palace are willing to break the bank on Schuurs, meanwhile, may raise further questions about the future of both Guehi and Joachim Andersen.

Guehi has caught the eye of some of the Premier League’s biggest hitters. Andersen, meanwhile, is wanted by Champions League-bound Newcastle United.
