Yesterday, it was announced that Carlos Corberan had resigned from his role at Huddersfield, meaning Boris Johnson wasn’t the only high-profile resignation of the day.
Huddersfield Chief Executive Dean Hoyle admitted it was a “real shock” to see the Spaniard quit – now, however, we think the surprise news could benefit Crystal Palace or Leeds.
What’s the story?
Well, it has been said that both Patrick Vieira and Jesse Marsch are interested in signing Lewis O’Brien from Huddersfield.
Now, we believe their chances of signing the 23-year-old have increased following the news about Corberan.
According to The Athletic, the 39-year-old decided to quit after realising that he and those in the boardroom were not totally aligned on their vision for the Terriers.
That sounds slightly concerning, and in our view, if that is how Corberan feels, some of the players could also be thinking about a change of scenery – especially after watching their manager resign.
Of all the players at Huddersfield, O’Brien is surely the one who should be the most ambitious, as Crystal Palace and Leeds aren’t the only Premier League sides interested in the £10m man.

It has been said that Southampton and Nottingham Forest are also keen to sign the Colchester-born midfielder, so if he decides to follow Corberan, he won’t be short of options.
Crystal Palace need Lewis O’Brien more than Leeds
After Marsch secured the midfield additions of Marc Roca and Tyler Adams, we feel Crystal Palace have greater need for O’Brien than Leeds do.
The south Londoners have just lost out on Flynn Downes to West Ham, a player they felt they had a deal wrapped up for until the Hammers hijacked the move.

There is interest in Morgan Gibbs-White, who is tempted by a move to Selhurst Park, but he has a £20m asking price, whereas O’Brien is supposedly available for £10m.
Therefore, we certainly wouldn’t be surprised to see the Terriers No.8 swap Huddersfield for south London this summer, especially after Corberan jumped ship.
