Earlier today, The Athletic revealed a surprise involving Huddersfield and Nottingham Forest, which could interest Crystal Palace and Leeds.

What’s the story?

Well, Lewis O’Brien is the man in the spotlight today.

It has been said that both Crystal Palace and Leeds are interested in the 23-year-old, after he shone for Huddersfield last season on their way to becoming Championship play-off finalists.

However, both Patrick Vieira and Jesse Marsch seemed set to miss out as Steve Cooper and Nottingham Forest agreed a deal with the Terriers, although now, there has been a twist.

According to The Athletic, negotiations have now collapsed, despite the fact O’Brien is already at the City Ground in Nottingham with his family waiting to be announced.

The deal has hit the rocks after Harry Toffolo – who was also set to join Nottingham Forest from Huddersfield in a double deal – failed to agree personal terms with the Premier League new boys.

O’Brien was set to be announced later today, but now, The Athletic believe any potential deal is no longer happening, unless Huddersfield change their stance.

Crystal Palace & Leeds should swoop in

In our view, the Eagles and the Whites now have a golden opportunity to hijack the O’Brien deal.

Seeing as the issue lies with Toffolo, we would assume that things with O’Brien could be smoothened out, especially as he is already in Nottingham with his family.

According to the Telegraph’s John Percy, he has even done his media duties, which includes a photoshoot in Nottingham Forest’s kits for the 2022/23 campaign, as well as an interview.

Therefore, Vieira and Marsch presumably don’t have much time to swoop in, if they are still interested in the £12m, Colchester-born midfielder.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as O’Brien’s future is well and truly up in the air.
