Crystal Palace have joined Leeds in the race to sign Oliver Skipp on loan from Tottenham ahead of the transfer deadline.

What’s the story?

Well, the south Londoners are keen to add another body to Patrick Vieira’s thin midfield department, and have targeted the England Under-21 international as a potential option.

That is according to Football London, who add that Leeds, Fulham and Bournemouth also want Skipp on loan.

The £49,000-a-week man is well thought of at Tottenham, but has struggled for game time this season under Antonio Conte with just three Premier League starts to his name.

Football London believe Skipp is open to leaving Spurs on loan in order to regain his match sharpness, having missed a large chunk of the 2021/22 campaign with a pelvic injury.

However, Crystal Palace and Leeds may have to convince Antonio Conte that a loan move for the Tottenham No.29 would be best for him, as the Italian is wary of leaving himself short in the midfield department.

Skipp should choose Crystal Palace over Leeds

In our view, Skipp only needs to look at how Vieira developed Conor Gallagher on loan at Selhurst Park last season to make his mind up.

The 22-year-old would get plenty of playing time given the lack of depth in Crystal Palace’s midfield right now, whereas Leeds have just signed United States international Weston McKennie to solve their own issues in that department.

Skipp would also find himself among plenty of players he knows from the England Under-21 side, such as Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze, who could help him settle in.

Furthermore, the Tottenham maestro wouldn’t need to move far if he hops across London to join the Eagles, ensuring he can remain close to friends and family.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Crystal Palace are also considering a loan bid for Albert Sambi Lokonga of Arsenal today.
