Crystal Palace fans should now be very excited as a rumour emerges from Chelsea.

The Athletic believe Chelsea must sell players before Friday 30th June in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations, after spending over £600m across the last two transfer windows.

So, why does that concern Crystal Palace? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, Crystal Palace and Chelsea have a strong relationship, which could help the Eagles lure some exciting talent to Selhurst Park.

After Chelsea gave the south Londoners an option to loan Michy Batshuayi for £1m back in January 2019 – while charging Tottenham £8m and West Ham £4m for the same opportunity – Roy Hodgson revealed the positive relationship between both sides.

The Independent quoted the 75-year-old as saying: “I can’t say I’m surprised about it, I’m very pleased about it. A lot of it has to do with the relationship with Chelsea and Crystal Palace, Chelsea people and our chairman, Steve Parish.”

Crystal Palace have since signed Marc Guèhi from Chelsea for a very reasonable £18m fee, while the Blues also handed Conor Gallagher over on loan for the 2021/22 campaign, so it would seem both clubs are still on good terms.

Who Crystal Palace could take from Chelsea

Now, we aren’t suggesting that Crystal Palace will be pinching the likes of Reece James and Raheem Sterling from Chelsea.

However, there are a number of fringe players Chelsea may be looking to offload who would be excellent additions at Selhurst Park.

There is, of course, the aforementioned Gallagher, who enjoyed a hugely successful loan spell last season in which he won Crystal Palace’s Player of the Year award.

Chelsea could also be looking to cash in on Callum Hudson-Odoi, who would fit in seamlessly amongst the likes of Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise. The same could be said for Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Levi Colwill – who the Evening Standard claimed was a target for Crystal Palace in 2022 – could also be offloaded.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Chelsea, as their June 30th deadline to raise funds should ensure some early deals are agreed this summer.
