With no continental football, the League Cup will likely take more importance this season for Mikel Arteta’s side. A place in Europe is on offer for whoever wins the cup.
Moreover, the competition grants Arteta the perfect chance to give the likes of Folarin Balogun, Miguel Azeez and Arthur Okonkwo chances to impress in the first team.
And Arsenal have a good history in the competition. The Gunners have won the League Cup twice in their history and made it to the final of the 2017/18 season.
Indeed, the tournament will likely be of some note for Arteta this season. But for Arsenal fans on social media, being drawn in the second round of the competition was a stark reminder of just how far the club have fallen.
