Takehiro Tomiyasu, Jules Kounde, Joachim Andersen, Jannik Vestergaard… there is a new centre back target being linked with Tottenham basically every other day.
New director of football Fabio Paratici will know that Tottenham desperately need centre back additions this summer, and it’s no surprise to see him being linked with Serie A talents.
Tomiyasu seems reasonably priced, but there have also been links to a player he signed for Juventus in Cristian Romero.
Romero excelled with Genoa, prompting Juventus into a 2019 deal. The 23-year-old returned to Genoa on loan, then headed off to Atalanta last summer, joining on loan with an option to buy.
Atalanta will take that option, meaning the Argentinian international will leave Juve without ever making an appearance for them – but Paratici remains a fan.
Calciomercato reported last month that Tottenham are expected to take part in something of an auction for Romero, but they’re not alone in the race.
Sky Italia noted that Liverpool had made contact to sign Romero, who was praised for dominating Zlatan Ibrahimovic when Atalanta faced AC Milan earlier this year.

On Tuesday evening, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano was asked directly on Twitch about Romero possibly joining Tottenham, and he offered an interesting response.
Romano told fans to keep an eye on Romero to Tottenham, suggesting that there is real Premier League interest emerging for him even if nothing is imminent, and he feels that Romero joining an English club like Tottenham is ‘a possibility’.
“I would keep an eye on Romero,” said Romano when asked about Romero to Tottenham. “I am told he has chances to move to the Premier League, but it will take some days to see where he is going. It’s a possibility, I’m sure it’s a possibility,” he added.
