Summer Rangers target Ben Heneghan is expected to leave his current employers after enquiries from other clubs. But are the Ibrox side among those to have registered an interest?
Heneghan is said to have been on Rangers’ shortlist before the arrivals of fellow centre-backs Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso last summer [Sky Sports], but later joined Sheffield United from Motherwell.
With United performing above expectations in the meantime, however, the towering 24-year-old is still awaiting his competitive Blades debut.
Heneghan’s manager, Chris Wilder, told BBC Radio Sheffield on Thursday that he expects the player to leave on loan within the next 10 days, and that’s an arrangement that could suit Rangers – who have already raided one Championship club’s reserves this window, borrowing Sean Goss from Queens Park Rangers.
Recent reports suggest Rangers could offload Alves [Daily Record] and/or Cardoso [A Bola] this month – while the former was recently pictured on crutches and wearing a protective boot after limping out of Saturday’s Old Firm.
Bringing in Heneghan therefore, who was regarded as one the best centre-halves in Scotland last season, wouldn’t be the worst idea Rangers have ever had.
But could it be possible? We’ll have to wait and see.
