Chris Wilder has told BBC Radio Sheffield that Sheffield United have received enquiries for out of favour pair Nathan Thomas and Ben Heneghan.

Thomas has played 106 minutes since his summer move to Bramall Lane, while Heneghan is still awaiting his debut for the Blades.

Fringe striker James Hanson has already left Sheffield United for Bury on loan this week, and according to Wilder, Thomas and Heneghan could follow in the next week to 10 days.

Asked if there has been interest in the pair, the Blades boss replied: “Yes there has.

“It’s been quite slow so far. There’s not a lot of things have happened really in the first week of the transfer window. It will speed up. But there have been enquiries from a lot of clubs regarding players that have not been involved for us.

“I’m expecting both of those boys, maybe in the next week or 10 days, to make a choice and us do the deal for them to go out and play football.”

Wilder, who has confirmed his interest in Southend midfielder Ryan Leonard on multiple occasions, added that he is hoping for a resolution on that deal early next week.

And the 50-year-old claimed that Sheffield United are ready to pursue alternative targets if there is no breakthrough by then.

“I’m catching up with it this morning. It has to come to a head over the next few days now. We’ve got another meeting this morning and we’ll see where we are come the weekend.

“We have made a bid and we are going back and forth to Southend, but I should imagine if nothing’s done by the early part of the week then that basically will get called off.

“We’ve got other options as well to go to and we’ll pursue them. We’ve tried, and we’re trying. We always knew there’d be a cut off date really after the weekend because of him being cup-tied.”

HITC Sport understands that Sheffield United are among the clubs interested in signing Middlesbrough midfielder Adam Clayton.
