Former St Mirren boss Alex Rae
Alex Rae is the latest former Rangers player to hold talks with the club about becoming Pedro Caixinha’s assistant at Ibrox, according to the Daily Record.
Caixinha was appointed Rangers manager a fortnight ago, bringing with him a trio of trusted staff members – Helder Baptista, Pedro Malta and Jose Belman.
But with another coaching appointment seemingly next on the Portuguese’s agenda, Rangers’ director of football position looks to have taken a back seat.
The DoF trail has run cold in recent weeks, with Southampton’s Ross Wilson turning down the position and Huddersfield’s Stuart Webber now bound for Norwich.
The Telegraph reported earlier this month that another target, Paul Mitchell, is unlikely to join Rangers – despite being placed on gardening leave by Tottenham Hotspur – with alternative opportunities expected to present themselves.

However, could Rae’s appointment increase Rangers’ chances of landing the Englishman?
After all, the pair were colleagues at MK Dons at the turn of the decade, with Rae going from player to assistant coach while Mitchell was working as the club’s head of recruitment.
