According to The Telegraph, Paul Mitchell is unlikely to become Rangers’ Director of Football immediately, with other opportunities likely to arise.

Mitchell, 35, was placed on gardening leave by Tottenham Hotspur on Tuesday, and is now free to move on to another club after a six-month battle to leave White Hart Lane.

Previously serving as Tottenham’s head of recruitment, Mitchell handed in his resignation in August, but has been serving out a notice period at White Hart Lane, which could have run until the end of this year.

Now though, Mitchell – who followed manager Mauricio Pochettino from Southampton to Spurs in 2014 – has been allowed to leave Tottenham, and he’s already being linked with a move elsewhere.

The Telegraph report that Rangers are keen to land Mitchell having missed on Southampton’s Director of Scouting Ross Wilson, but Mitchell is also allegedly ‘unlikely’ to take the job.

It’s believed that Mitchell will have a number of opportunities from various clubs, and he won’t want to jump into the Rangers job before seeing what offers come his way.

The Daily Mail reported in August that Leicester City were keen on Mitchell, whilst The Express recently claimed that Celtic were ready to challenge Old Firm rivals Rangers in the race for his services.

That leaves the Gers considering their options, as they look for a Director of Football as well as a new manager following the departures of Frank McParland and Mark Warburton.

Rangers won’t want to miss out on Mitchell having been snubbed by Wilson, and whilst the ex-Spurs man would seemingly like to wait and see what offers come his way, Rangers will hope to persuade him into taking the job immediately, with the prospect of revitalising the club no doubt appealing to Mitchell.
