Everton were linked with a move for the Southampton player earlier this summer.
Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie
According to The Sun, Southampton have transfer listed Dutch midfielder Jordy Clasie, months after he was linked with a move to Everton by The Mirror. So could the Toffees renew their interest in the final few days of the summer transfer window?
HITC takes a look:
Do Everton need him?
New West Brom midfielder Gareth Barry
Everton’s central midfield may look congested, following the recent additions of Davy Klaassen and Gylfi Sigurdsson, but after Gareth Barry’s departure the Toffees are perhaps short of another, more defensive-minded option – especially with James McCarthy also linked away. Claise could be that man.
Why would he move to Goodison?
Everton manager Ronald Koeman
Other than the obvious, i.e. not being part of Southampton’s plans, Clasie would surely entertain a reunion with Everton manager Ronald Koeman, whom he also played under at St Mary’s and Feyenoord. With the Toffees adding Europa League football to this season’s programme, the 15-cap Netherlands international would likely get plenty of opportunity to play.
Are there any obstacles?
Lazio are said to be very keen, and a move to Rome, where Clasie’s former Feyenoord teammate Stefan De Vrij currently plies his trade, could appeal – especially if he’s given guarantees of regular game time. While Everton may be less inclined to move for him if they cannot offload McCarthy.
Could Everton turn to Claise this week?
