Tim Thornton has intimated that Leeds United could be set to step up their efforts on signing a striker this summer.
Leeds have snapped up Sonny Perkins after his release from West Ham United but, at 18, he wouldn’t be expected to lead the line for Jesse Marsch’s outfit next season.
The Whites desperately need a tried-and-tested, experienced hitman to compete with Patrick Bamford for the number nine position in West Yorkshire.
Speculation is mounting that Martin Terrier and Arnaud Kalimuendo are among the potential candidates to come in and rival Bamford.
According to The Independent, Leeds have made a £17 million offer for PSG talent Kalimuendo, while L’Equipe have claimed that Terrier of Rennes is also a target.
In any case, Thornton of Sky Sports has suggested that it’s very possible for Marsch and Victor Orta to sign neither of those, but claimed that there could soon be ‘movement’ in their pursuit of another forward option very shortly.
He told Give Me Sport: “They would probably be at the top end of the budget.
“I’m not saying they wouldn’t pay the money for those players, but they will look at different options, and I don’t think they’ve sort of made a final decision in terms of who they’re going to bring in yet. But there could be movement sooner rather than later.”
United round off their pre-season camapign with a clash against Cagliari on Sunday, ahead of their Premier League opener at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers next week.
