Speculation is rife that Tottenham Hotspur could potentially re-sign Pierluigi Gollini this summer.
The Italian goalkeeper is on loan at Spurs from Atalanta.
But Tuttomercatoweb reported on Tuesday – as covered by HITC Sport – that talks are planned with the player ahead of potentially re-signing the 27-year-old on another loan for next season.
And if this materialises, the Lilywhites’ manager, Antonio Conte, will be livid.
Not convinced
Even as far back as December, talkSPORT claimed that the Spurs boss was entirely ‘unconvinced’ by Gollini and that he wouldn’t be trying to keep him in North London.
Considering Gollini has played only two matches since then – against Morecambe and Chelsea in cup competitions – it’s fair to say that it’s impossible for Conte to have changed his mind on the player.
Tottenham would’ve been legally required to sign Gollini on a permanent basis this summer had Gollini played 20 matches this season.
However, he has only managed 10 appearances – and none have come in the Premier League.
The former Aston Villa keeper doesn’t seem to be a player who Conte wants to keep at Tottenham in any way and the idea of Fabio Paratici – who signed him for Nuno Espirito Santo last summer – getting him again anyway is unlikely to please the 52-year-old manager.
This is a massive summer for the North Londoners.
Conte’s friction with Daniel Levy during the January transfer window is well documented and the chairman will need to pull out all the stops to prevent his coach from quitting over recruitment-related frustration during the off-season, which he’s liable to do.
Keeping Conte happy at Tottenham will be the goal for Paratici and Levy.
And they’d hardly be getting the summer off to a cracking start by signing a playeyr who the manager doesn’t even rate.
