Roy Keane has told ITV Sport that he believes Antonio Conte will be delighted that Tottenham Hotspur’s Harry Kane played for an hour last night.
Kane on fire
The Tottenham striker apparently begged his manager to let him start against San Marino, as he wanted to edge closer to the goalscoring record.
As it turned out it was a good decision to pick the England captain.
Kane scored four goals in 15 first half minutes as the Three Lions cruised to a 10-0 victory.
And Keane thinks that the Tottenham manager will be delighted to see Kane getting extra minutes over the international break.
He said: “Conte will be delighted. Okay, a lot of managers complain about players playing for their country, but Conte will be sitting at home thinking what he’s doing now is better than any training session he could have got.
“He’s scoring goals, it’ll help his confidence, and he’ll go back to Tottenham with a spring in his step. “
Back to club matters
In previous years Spurs may have wanted Kane wrapped up in cotton wool in a game against San Marino.

However, the added match sharpness he will have got from representing England could benefit them now.
Kane has hit seven goals in two games for his country in the past few days, so his confidence should be sky high when he returns to club football.
The Tottenham striker actually hasn’t been in particularly strong form this term.
He has just one Premier League strike to his name and is still looking for his first goal under Conte’s management.
But he now has momentum on his side, ahead of Tottenham’s clash with Leeds United on Sunday.
