Unai Emery’s Aston Villa suffered a heavy defeat to Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park on Sunday.
Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur are fighting for the fourth and final UEFA Champions League spot in the Premier League table.
Villa suffered a 4-0 defeat at the hands of Tottenham on Sunday afternoon. All four goals came in the second half.
England international attacking midfielder James Maddison put Tottenham in the lead in the 50th minute.
Wales international forward Brennan Johnson made it 2-0 to the North London club just three minutes later.

Villa went down to 10 men in the 65th minute when John McGinn was shown a straight red card.
The Scotland international midfielder was sent off for a reckless tackle on Tottenham left-back Destiny Udogie, who is one of the best and most important players for Spurs.
Tottenham found the back of the net twice in injury time to win the Premier League game 4-0.
Conor Coady on Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn vs Tottenham Hotspur
Conor Coady was following the match for BBC Radio 5 Live, and the Leicester City central defender has noted that McGinn was playing well and was driving Villa forward before he was sent off.
McGinn was brilliant for Villa in the first half. He was a force to be reckoned with in the middle of the park and created three good chances for his teammates.
The midfielder worked hard off the ball, but he should have known better than to make the tackle that he did.
Coady said about McGinn on BBC Radio 5 Live (2:26 pm, March 10, 2024): “I will tell you know. He was the one who was driving Aston Villa, he was absolutely driving Aston Villa.
“He was somebody who was really pushing them in the second half, just to see them get back on the front foot.
“So, to see the captain sent off and see one of the main players sent off is really disappointing for Aston Villa.”
Blow for Aston Villa
In my opinion, the defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at Villa Park is a big blow for Aston Villa in their quest to finish in the UEFA Champions League places in the Premier League table.
Villa are fourth in the Premier League table at the moment with 55 points from 28 matches.
Unai Emery’s side are now two points ahead of Tottenham Hotspur, who are fifth and have played 27 games.
