Conor Coady was following the match between Unai Emery’s Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur’s Ange Postecoglou on Sunday, and he was impressed with one particular Spurs midfielder.

Tottenham Hotspur took on Aston Villa away from home at Villa Park in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.

Spurs won the match 4-0. All four goals came in the second half, which also saw Villa midfielder John McGinn sent off.

Leicester City central defender Conor Coady was following the match for BBC Radio 5 Live, and he was hugely impressed by the shift put in by James Maddison.

Conor Coady praises Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison vs Aston Villa

The former Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back noted how the Tottenham and England international attacking midfielder Maddison was dropping deep against Villa.

Maddison scored the opening goal for Tottenham in the 50th minute when he turned in Pape Matar Sarr’s brilliant cross. He had a pass accuracy of 93.8%, took 81 touches, and put in one cross.

Coady said about Maddison on BBC Radio 5 Live (2:45 pm, March 10, 2024): “He is fantastic, he is absolutely fantastic.

“I think any supporter, obviously not Villa ones here today, but any supporter wants to see a player like him, wants to see a player like him dictating the play, get on the ball, and he has got just a free role in this team.

“We have always been expecting Maddison to get on the ball, in between the lines, get on the half turn, create things, but he drops deep in this team. He received the ball off the back four – an absolutely phenomenal player.”

My View: James Maddison is a key player for Tottenham Hotspur

In my opinion, James Maddison is one of the key players for Tottenham Hotspur.

The England international playmaker has been superb for Tottenham since his move from Leicester City in the summer of 2023.

Maddison had a spell on the sidelines because of injury this season, but when fit, he has been superb.

The 27-year-old Englishman has scored four goals and given seven assists in 17 Premier League games for Spurs this season.

Tottenham are aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season, and I believe that for Spurs to be successful in that quest, Maddison will have to be on top of his game in the final weeks and months of the campaign.
