Conor Coady has expressed his love for Chelsea veteran Thiago Silva and what he has achieved in his career.

The 39-year-old is still going strong in one of the most gruelling and physically challenging leagues in the world, which is a testament to the player and his hunger for the game.

When Thiago Silva does hang up his boots, there is no doubt that he will go down as one of the all-time greats in his position.

But what makes the Champions League-winning defender with Chelsea so great?

Former England defender Conor Coady was building his dream Premier League centre-back and he made it clear that he just had to pick Thiago Silva, as he told Premier League Productions (19/02/24 at 11:20 pm).

For each attribute, from speed to physical strength, Conor Coady had to pick a player of his choice for that skill set and when it came to leadership or footballing IQ, he explained that Thiago Silva is his number one.

That’s a big reason why he is still able to produce the goods in the Premier League because the speed of his brain is as quick as Tottenham’s Micky van de Ven making a recovery run.

Nonetheless, Cone Coady, who is now at Leicester City, shared that Thiago Silva is ‘one of my all-time favourites’ and he has his shirt up on his wall.

Thiago Silva’s leadership skills

“Thiago Silva is one of my all-time favourite centre-backs, I love him,” said Coady. “I love his composure. I love how he defends. I love how he uses his head.

“We have gone from one of the fastest defenders we are going to see (Micky van de Ven) to one of the fastest in the head.

“I have got a shirt of him on the wall at home. He is my favourite one, by far. I love him to bits. From the times I played against him, I was in awe a little bit of him just because of what he has done in his career.

“But how he plays the game. How he sees the game, not just a leader kind of talking to his team, but how he holds himself and how he conducts himself on the pitch and I just think he is first class. Just how he leads on the pitch in terms of his performance, his composure, how he plays and reads the game. I think he is phenomenal.”

Thiago Silva to leave Chelsea

HITC have already revealed that Chelsea won’t offer Silva a new contract when his current one expires this summer.

Yes, things may have gone downhill for the club since they became champions of Europe, but it’s pretty clear that this new ownership is going down the road of buying the best young talents out there.

It’s a shame for Silva that it’s going to end this way because he would have preferred to have been challenging for the Premier League title.

But he still has a chance to help the team win a trophy, with the League Cup final against Liverpool on Sunday and an FA Cup clash against Leeds United to follow.
