Jesse Marsch said that he had held some “tough conversations” with Leeds star Tyler Adams, after the win over Chelsea and now – Adams has opened up on those discussions to ESPN, saying he wants to find the “Old Tyler” in a Leeds shirt.
Adams, 23, was a £20million signing for Leeds in the summer – one of eight new players at Elland Road. He joined the club from RB Leipzig, having worked with the current Leeds gaffer at the Bundesliga club – and New York Red Bulls.
He has already formed a formidable partnership with fellow recruit Marc Roca. Replacing Kalvin Phillips, the duo compliment eachother. Adams is a tough-tackling, ball-winning midfielder. Roca is more of a deep-lying playmaker.
Speaking to ESPN ahead of the Chelsea win, but only published on Tuesday, Adams recalled his “tough conversations”. He says that he got into his comfort zone at Leipzig, and wanted to rediscover a previous version of himself at Leeds.

“I had a tough conversation with Jesse before I came here about finding the old Tyler,” Adams said. “My time at Leipzig, I lost a little bit of confidence. I lost the way of, you know, who I was and what I wanted to become.
“I got a little bit too much in my comfort zone,” Adams continued, in interview with ESPN. “So we had a tough conversation, we talked over it, not an argument in any way or sense but some difficult points came across.”
Leeds star Adams on ‘tough conversations’ with Marsch
He has been an incredible addition, already. He was voted man of the match by Leeds fans for his combative performance against Chelsea, a game in which Leeds surprisingly won 3-0. Adams was absolutely everywhere.
It was his best performance so far. But that is no slight on his displays against Wolves and Southampton, both of which have also been excellent. He has started and finished all three games, testament to his fitness and energy.
Leeds fans love work rate. They love big tackles, they love endeavour, they love passion. Adams has all of those attributes in abundance and there is no doubt, that in a Leeds shirt, he is already rediscovering the “Old Tyler”.
