Jesse Marsch says he has had some ‘tough conversations’ with new Leeds favourite

Jesse Marsch told his post-match Leeds United press conference – as per Leeds Live – that he has had some “tough conversations” with midfielder Tyler Adams after his stunning performance against Chelsea on Sunday.

A surprise, and stunning performance saw Leeds run out 3-0 winners against Chelsea. Goals from Brenden Aaronson, Rodrigo and Jack Harrison see Leeds take their tally to seven points from three games. Their best under Marsch so far.

Leeds were ruthless. Their pressing was excellent, and even without Patrick Bamford, they were lethal in front of goal. Rodrigo took his tally to four goals in three games. Jack Harrison notched an assist, and his first goal of the season.

Aaronson, arguably, got his second goal – as he still claims he got the winner against Wolves. Plenty of players had their best performance in a Leeds shirt – more than most, though, was Adams. He was absolutely everywhere.

According to WhoScored, the £20million signing was joint first in tackles with four – and leading the way in terms of interceptions, with three. Of the players that started, he was second in terms of passing, completing 34 passes of 41.

Marsch said: “Best football of his life. Know his potential. From the beginning, had some tough convos. Picked up where we left off years ago together. So much more potential. Really happy with him, but can make him better.”

What a performance. Coming up against a midfield of Conor Gallagher and Jorginho, as well as competing against the likes of Raheem Sterling, Mason Mount and Kai Havertz, Adams was near-perfect. He and Marc Roca were superb.

Adams is more of a battling-type midfielder. One to break the play up and keep it simple. Incredible stamina and work rate, while Roca likes to get on the ball and feed his attackers. The two compliment eachother to perfection.

Meanwhile, Kalvin Phillips was an unused substitute as Manchester City drew 3-3 with Newcastle. Leeds have replaced Phillips, perhaps even improved on him, with their new-look midfield. £38k-a-week Adams is crucial to that.
