Rio Ferdinand has slammed suggestions that West Ham United should ‘sack’ manager David Moyes.
The Premier League legend made it clear that West Ham United can’t part ways with the Scotsman after they recently won the Europa Conference League in Prague, as he told talkSPORT.
After over four decades, David Moyes ended the club’s long-wait to win a trophy, but months on, and it is all looking gloomy for the club.
Whilst their European adventure last time out was one to remember, at the end of the day, they were pretty abject in the Premier League and were involved in a relegation battle for some time.
And now, they have sold their best player – Declan Rice – to London rivals Arsenal for a club-record transfer. That was nearly three weeks ago, yet the club sit here today with no new faces added.
From Southampton captain James Ward-Prowse, who has been deemed ‘too expensive’ by the Hammers to Manchester City winger Carlos Borges, who has opted against moving to the London Stadium and is now joining Ajax, things aren’t looking good anywhere the club looks and it’s putting a dark cloud over Moyes.

“Before I came on here, you (Rory Jennings) said that David Moyes should still be given the sack,” said Ferdinand. “Are you sure?! Come on, man!? They have won a European competition.
“It might also say we were focusing elsewhere because we had a real belief that we could win a European competition (on their poor league form). How many managers have won European competitions?
“I don’t think West Ham were great in the league. You can’t go away from the fact that they have gone into a European competition and won a European trophy. Unai Emery is looked like an absolute genius because he has won European competitions. Maybe not the Conference. I understand, but he has won European trophies outside of the Champions League.
“There is something to be said about doing that. It’s not an easy thing to do. It says that he is actually a good manager. He has proved over the years that he is a good manager – you can’t sack David Moyes after winning the Europa Conference League.”

Moyes had earned the right to stay on – but he should have left this summer
There’s no way West Ham should be looking to sack Moyes after their European success, if there is anybody that needs booting out, then it’s the board.
Moyes or not. Those running the ship have always been abject at their job and they are, once again, showcasing signs that is leaving fans worried.
After Moyes’ success in Prague, he should have walked away himself and left on an absolute high because, if they start the season poorly, then he will take some serious verbal beatings.
