Wolverhampton Wanderers are about to sign Matheus Nunes from Sporting in what seems to be a bit of a transfer coup.

Nunes had been linked to the likes of Liverpool and West Ham United, but using their Jorge Mendes connections, Wolves have managed to swoop in.

This isn’t a done deal just yet, but according to Fabrizio Romano, an announcement is imminent.

However, until a signature is on the contract, there’s the chance of a hijack, and former Liverpool man Jose Enrique has urged his former club to get in and pinch this player from under Wolves’ noses.

Enrique clearly rates Nunes, labelling him as a ‘top player’ in another tweet.

At £45m, Nunes wouldn’t be cheap, but perhaps this is a deal Liverpool should be exploring.

The Reds’ midfield has been decimated by injuries in recent weeks, and with the likes of Thiago and Jordan Henderson not getting any younger, the Merseyside club need to reinforcements.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have, of course, extensively scouted the Portuguese market – Luis Diaz and Darwin Nunez have been their last two major signings, and they have been credited with an interest in Nunes.

In fact, according to one journalist, Liverpool believe that the player’s profile is perfect for their style of play, but, for some reason, they seem happy to let Wolves have this one.

One thing is for sure, Wolves will be getting a brilliant player if they can get this deal over the line, and this may be one that Liverpool live to regret not getting involved in for years to come.
