Cody Gakpo makes Arne Slot admission and says ‘a lot has changed’ since Jurgen Klopp’s departure

Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo has admitted that a ‘lot has changed’ under new manager Arne Slot this summer.

Arne Slot was appointed Liverpool’s new manager with the Dutchman replacing Jurgen Klopp after the enigmatic German announced that his nine-year association with the Reds was coming to an end.

Slot was chosen to replace one of the most important managers in Liverpool’s history but the club have yet to make a first team signing under the Dutchman.

Despite this negativity off the field, Liverpool kicked off a new era under Slot with a 2-0 victory over Ipswich Town at Portman Road.

Cody Gakpo opens up on changes at Liverpool

The transfer window has been a frustrating one but on the pitch, particularly in the second half against Kieran McKenna’s side, Liverpool flexed their muscles.

Speaking to Dutch outlet Sport Nieuws, Cody Gakpo has opened up on life under his Dutch compatriot.

“A lot has changed compared to Klopp, but he makes a very good impression. It is not necessarily better or worse, but it has mainly changed,” he said.

“Last season it was more from the counter, but that is only advantageous. We will soon have mastered both systems. That can take us far.

“He (Slot) is just very honest and direct, which is beneficial to players. Then you always know where you stand.

“The matches in the preparation were good right away and we also won that first match against Ipswich. Then you immediately have plus points within the club and you’re already in. If it continues like this, we can have a great year.”

Whilst it is far too early yet to state whether Slot will be able to fill the big shoes of Klopp, it has certainly been a good start.

Liverpool’s second half against Ipswich was quick, incisive and at times breathtaking to watch with midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai looking impressive against the promoted sides.

There will be tougher tests to come for Liverpool, with the Reds’ trip to Old Trafford to face Manchester United on matchday three a particularly challenging one, but the signs are certainly positive for the Merseyside club.
