Cody Gakpo has posted on Instagram, but it isn’t regarding a transfer to Liverpool.
On Boxing Day, PSV Eindhoven delivered a knockout for Manchester United by revealing that their Premier League rivals had agreed a deal to sign the Dutchman [Sky Sports].
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils had previously been in ‘advanced talks’ regarding a transfer to Old Trafford.
But it is Liverpool who are set to win the race.
As a result, many-a-Reds supporter has probably been refreshing Cody Gakpo’s Instagram repeatedly, hoping for an update from the man himself.
And although the 23-year-old Netherlands international has now posted an Instagram story, it’s not relating to his imminent move to Liverpool.
Instead, and rather curiously, Gakpo, dressed in PSV attire, has ran a mini competition on his Instagram, where one of his 481,000 followers can win a signed Netherlands shirt.
Liverpool supporters will no doubt continue to be glued to his socials, but there will – and probably will be – radio silence until the Anfield outfit themselves confirm it.
So far, the Reds have greeted PSV’s announcement with silence, but it does seem only a matter of time.
First, Gakpo – a left-sided attacker – will have to undergo a medical and from there, it’ll be a case of when and not if.
