Coco Gauff was given a surprising challenge when she met Tyler, the Creator in Miami.

Gauff is a two-time Grand Slam champion and is currently bidding to win her third major title at the Australian Open.

The world number three has made an impressive start in her bid to win the title in Melbourne, with Gauff already in the third round.

After her victory over Olga Danilovic, Gauff was asked about a number of things, including her meeting with rapper Tyler, The Creator.

Coco Gauff speaks about her meeting Tyler, The Creator in Miami

During the off-season, Gauff used her rare time away from the WTA Tour to attend some music events, which she was asked about in her press conference after her straight sets victory over Danilovic.

“Yeah, Dijon,” said Gauff when asked who she had been to watch during the off-season.

Gauff was then asked about a picture of her with Tyler, The Creator, which was taken after she had lost in the Miami Open last year.

When explaining the context of this picture, Gauff revealed that Tyler, The Creator, had actually challenged herself to a race.

Gauff has previously claimed she could have been an Olympic runner, but she admitted that Tyler, The Creator actually beat her.

“That picture is actually after Miami Open,” said Gauff. “I lost, and Tyler had a show that day, and I was just, like, let me just go. Nobody knew I was there, but his friend recognized me and brought me to the back.

“Tyler was, like, ‘Let’s race’. Of course, I’m not going to turn down a challenge, so I raced him. He’s fast. He was way faster than I thought. So I kind of started out thinking I could just jog it through, and he went out fast, so I tried to speed up, and I almost fell. That picture was him beating me in the race.

“Yeah, I went to Flog Gnaw this year. I have been going every year. I just love experiencing live music. It was really cool that I got to see some of my favorite artists live and got to meet one of my favorite artists, too.”

What did Coco Gauff say about Tyler, The Creator after winning the French Open?

This is not the first time that Gauff has mentioned Tyler, The Creator at a Grand Slam tournament, as she also did after winning the French Open last year.

In her on-court interview after winning her second Grand Slam singles title, Gauff quoted Tyler, The Creator.

“I want to thank my team,” said Gauff. “You are always pushing me. I know sometimes I’m not easy to work with, but thank you for everything you do. I appreciate you guys.

“I also want to thank my parents – from washing my clothes to keeping me grounded, you always believed in me. You guys are the reason I do this and inspire me more than anything.

“I want to thank the crowd, too. You really helped me today, you were cheering so hard and I don’t know what I do to deserve so much love from the French crowd, but merci beaucoup.

“I didn’t think I could do it, but I’m going to quote Tyler, The Creator, who said, ‘If I ever told you I had a doubt inside me, I must be lying’. I’ll leave you with that.”

Gauff is also mentioned in the Tyler, The Creator song ‘Thought I was Dead’, showing the growing connection between the two.

As she looks to switch her attention back to tennis, Gauff will now look ahead to her third round Australian Open match against fellow American Hailey Baptiste.
