Bristol City are confident that Alex Scott will not leave for Premier League suitors Everton, West Ham United or Southampton in the summer transfer window, assistant coach Curtis Fleming tells Bristol World.

Scott’s ‘Guernsey Grealish’ nickname is not just the result of some tidy alliteration.

At 18, the teenage midfielder plays the game with a confidence and a swagger reminiscent of Grealish’s early days in the claret-and-blue of Aston Villa, albeit with a somewhat more sensible haircut.

Just ten months after making his Championship debut, Scott is already a transfer target for Everton, West Ham and Southampton (The Mail).

According to London World, Tottenham Hotspur scout Peter Braund has scouted the England U19 international on a number of occasions, including earlier in February.

But Scott has three years left on his contract. And Fleming is losing no sleep despite a surge of interest in one of the EFL’s most exciting talents.

Is Alex Scott staying at Bristol City?

“It’s something we don’t have to think about,” says the former Republic of Ireland defender. “At the moment, he is our player.

“The reality of football is if someone comes in and says ‘I’ll give you £100 million’, we’d go ‘alright then, we might have to take that’. But also if someone comes in and offers £400k you’d respond; ‘Are you winding me up?’

“Nothing is going to happen here. We’re not thinking about him going. We haven’t even had it in the back of our mind.

“We don’t sit there shaking, thinking the phone’s going to ring and someone’s going to take him. We really believe that (the young players) are going to be here (next season).

“At the moment, we’re not thinking of him going anywhere.”

Music to the ears of Bristol City supporters. Scott, alongside Han-Noah Massengo and the irrepressible Antoine Semenyo, are shining lights in another dark season at Ashton Gate.

Inspired by the success of Jarrod Bowen and Said Benrahma, meanwhile, West Ham are looking at a hatful of exciting Championship talent, including Scott, Jacob Greaves and the Humberside Hazard Keane Lewis-Potter.
