Leeds United are looking to bring in a new midfielder before the transfer deadline, and Huddersfield Town’s Lewis O’Brien seems the most likely signing.
Nahitan Nandez has been a popular name throughout the summer, but Leeds could look closer to home rather than push for the Cagliari ace.
The Sun report that an £8million deal with Leeds is now looking more and more likely with Crystal Palace prioritising Will Hughes instead.
The Sunday Mirror (22/08, p64) report that Huddersfield are now preparing to sell O’Brien to Leeds before next week’s transfer deadline.
O’Brien has still started Huddersfield’s last two games, but a short trip to Leeds now looks likely for the midfielder.
The Mirror’s report also carried quotes from former Huddersfield goalkeeper Matt Glennon, who offered his view on O’Brien.
Glennon suggested that O’Brien is now ready to step up from the Championship to the Premier League having excelled with Huddersfield.

Glennon – now a pundit for BBC Radio Leeds – added that O’Brien is not only ‘technically outstanding’ but also full of energy and perfect for Leeds’ style of play under BIelsa for that very reason.
“I feel Lewis is ready to make the step up because he’s proved himself a very good player,” said Glennon. “Three seasons ago, he went to Bradford City on loan and, despite them getting relegated, he was their stand-out player.”
“He has so much energy, a real willingness to get on the ball, and is technically outstanding. He drives forward and is not scared of a tackle.”
“Lewis is one of those players who never stops and that’s a great attribute to have, especially in a team like Leeds who play in a high press,” he added.
