Leeds United are moving nearer to landing Huddersfield Town’s Lewis O’Brien with Crystal Palace picking a move for Will Hughes instead.
That’s according to The Sun, who claim that Leeds are now in pole position for O’Brien as Palace go elsewhere for midfield reinforcements.
It’s stated that the Eagles have decided to go ahead with a move for Hughes, paying £7million rising to £10million for the Watford ace.
Hughes has been exiled from the first team having refused to sign a new contract with the club, and he would have been available for free next summer.
Palace are now seeking an agreement on personal terms with Hughes, with wages of around £60,000-a-week expected for him at Selhurst Park.
Palace chose Hughes over pushing for Lewis O’Brien, and that now leaves Leeds at the head of the queue for his signature.

It’s even claimed that Huddersfield may take a lower offer now, meaning Leeds may only have to pay £5million rising to £8million.
Marcelo Bielsa wants new energy in midfield, and O’Brien can certainly provide that – but with only nine days of the transfer window to go, Leeds need to get a move on.
