LeBron James’ upcoming free agency decision is the biggest talking point of the 2026 NBA offseason.
It has already been a chaotic summer, with Giannis Antetokounmpo, Jaylen Brown and LaMelo Ball already traded.
The next big move is likely to be James signing with another team following his departure from the Los Angeles Lakers.
A third spell with the Cleveland Cavaliers is one of James’ top options, in addition to the Miami Heat and the Golden State Warriors.
LeBron’s son, Bronny James, who remains contracted to the Lakers, could be one of the biggest factors in his decision-making.

How Bronny James factors into the Cavaliers’ pitch to LeBron James
The Cavaliers are open to bringing Bronny James to Cleveland alongside LeBron, according to Jake Fischer.
“One conspiracy whisper making the rounds: They want to make sure that they have open roster spots to be able to trade for the Lakers’ Bronny James in the event that they are able to welcome Dad back as a free agent signee.”
Bronny has two years remaining on his contract with the Lakers, including a team option for the 2027/28 season.
Therefore, the Cavaliers would need to trade for Bronny after signing LeBron in free agency.
One would expect the Lakers to be generous to the Cavs in trade negotiations, out of respect for LeBron.
Even though Bronny has potential as an NBA player, the main reason for his opportunities is that he can play with his father.
The pair have already made basketball history and may be looking to break more records next season.
Alternatively, LeBron could prefer Bronny to stay with JJ Redick and the Lakers, and forge his own career path.
Whatever decision they make, it will surely be a fascinating next chapter in LeBron’s legendary NBA career.
