Jurgen Klopp has claimed that Graham Potter is doing a ‘brilliant job’ at Brighton and stated that the rumoured Newcastle target has a ‘clear identity’, as he told his post-match press conference.

When a club like Brighton, after ten Premier League games, are pushing for those Champions League spots, then some serious light is going to be shone on the man in the dugout.

Potter’s name has been mentioned on a number of occasions when a Premier League manager is under pressure or someone has been sacked.

Newcastle are a club on the lookout for a new coach and the heavy-pockets of the Saudi’s have seemingly put Potter on their wishlist.

It would be something if the winless Premier League club could lure Potter towards their direction.

But the question has to be asked why would the 46-year-old leave his current comforts for a job that is a straight-out relegation battle.

Well, after Brighton’s 2-2 draw against Liverpool over the weekend, where they came from two goals down, Klopp was left wowed by the job Potter is doing and the manner in which he is doing it.

“He definitely has all you need,” said Klopp. “‘He obviously has a clear idea about football and he is doing a brilliant job.

“He has brought a clear identity to how he wants his teams to play. He is an innovator and is adventurous.

“‘He is an absolutely nice fella and his team mirrors his ability. I don’t want to talk the coach of Brighton away to some other clubs, but I think he should not worry about his future.”

It has been nearly two weeks since Steve Bruce was given his marching orders by Newcastle, yet no new face has been brought in to replace the Englishman.

There’s no doubt that the Magpies needed a change, but when they are sitting in the relegation zone, winless and just beaten 3-0 at the weekend, then something needs to happen, and fast.

Else, the new manager coming in won’t want to be standing in the dugout when the Magpies head to the Championship because that’s what the signs suggest so far.

Whilst those signs are worrying, there is still a lot of football to be played, including the winter transfer re-opening in a few months time.
