Arsenal have confirmed that Willian has departed the club by mutual consent, with the winger’s contract being torn up.
The Gunners confirmed on their official website that the Brazilian international had torn up his contract with the club. In doing so, Arsenal will save over £20m in wages over the next two years.
Willian joined Arsenal last summer for free from Chelsea. However, the winger struggled greatly to adapt to life in north London. The 33-year-old attacker scored just once in all competitions for Mikel Arteta’s side.
Indeed, the Brazilian attacker has been viewed by some supporters as one of the club’s worst signings in recent memory. However, Willian has won a lot of respect from fans for tearing up his contract.
The forward has wanted to leave the Gunners all summer. And now Willian will return back to Brazil to play for Corinthians, the club the winger started his career at.
Arsenal fans will be hoping Willian is the first of many players who will leave the club today. Eddie Nketiah, Sead Kolasinac and Hector Bellerin are all pushing to leave the club.

Yet regarding Willian, some Arsenal fans on social media applauded the attacker for forging his contract. The decision will save the club plenty on the wage bill over the next two years.
