Chris Waddle criticised the lack of pace on show from Sven Botman, as well as his centre-back partner, Jamaal Lascelles for Sheffield Wednesday’s winner in their surprise 2-1 win against Newcastle United in the FA Cup.

As 3 giant-killings happened on the weekend, one of them included Newcastle, who were surprisingly poor against the League One side.

Waddle seemed to particularly be puzzled after Josh Windass ran in behind Botman and Lascelles before putting the ball past Martin Dubravka in expert fashion.

While the latter has never been the quickest and has become a bit-part player at Newcastle at this stage, Sven Botman has an argument for being the best centre-back in the Premier League this season.

Since the Dutch international’s arrival from Lille in the summer, he has completely transformed the Magpies’ backline, turning them into the best defence (12 goals conceded in 18 games) in the league.

Alongside Schar, Botman has been absolutely magnificent, leading Jamie Carragher to dub Newcastle as the ‘most organised team in the league.’

However, a club legend has now slated the £35 million (Sky Sports) ace for his part in one of the goals shipped on on Saturday.

Chris Waddle has criticised the lack of pace from Sven Botman, as well as his centre-back partner, Jamaal Lascelles for Sheffield Wednesday’s winner against Newcastle United in the FA Cup.

“I said in the 1st half that the two centre-halves [Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles] lacked pace and it showed there.”

“Josh Windass just pulls away from both of them and what a finish it was, by the way”, Waddle said, as relayed by Chronicle Live.

Ultimately, Sven Botman could see the critique from Chris Waddle as an area where he can improve after his side’s FA Cup exit, seeing how accomplished he already looks already in a Newcastle United shirt.
