Scotland are officially out of Euro 2024 having been beaten 1-0 in dramatic fashion by Hungary on Sunday night.
This was a ‘do or die’ situation for Scotland; they simply had to win against Hungary to stand a chance of qualification through the group stage.
Defeat to Germany and a point against Switzerland left Scotland in desperate need of a victory.
With some third-placed teams able to through to the knockout stages, Scotland had one last chance to save their Euro 2024 campaign.
Neither side particularly looked like scoring for large parts of the game but Scotland were left incensed as Stuart Armstrong was bundled over inside the penalty area.
Those frustrations turned to heartbreak in the dying seconds of the game as Kevin Csoboth slotted home a late winner for Hungary.
Hungary still have hope of featuring in the knockout stages but the dream is over for Scotland as they crash out with just one point from three games.

Chris Sutton reacts to Scotland defeat
Scotland really had to win this game, so to play with such a lack of attacking intent for much of the game will be a source of real frustration.
Boss Steve Clarke has done a fine job in terms of taking Scotland to the last two European Championships, but his approach will be questioned this time around.
Pundit and former Celtic striker Chris Sutton has now taken to social media to share his reaction after seeing Scotland suffer elimination.
Sutton feels that the Armstrong incident wasn’t actually a penalty and criticised him for being more interested in winning a penalty than taking a shot on goal.
Sutton’s main criticism surrounds a current Celtic player though.
The former Bhoys hitman believes that Clarke should have been calling upon Celtic wide man James Forrest.
Forrest was in the Scotland squad but was an unused substitute in all three of Scotland’s Group A games.
Sutton feels that Scotland struggled to create quality changes and believes that Forrest could have been the solution.
Forrest may turn 33 in July but he did manage a decent record of seven goals and two assists in 28 appearances for Celtic.
Clarke didn’t believe that Forrest was the man to make an impact for Scotland but Sutton clearly believes that the former Kilmarnock boss made a big error in not looking his way this summer.
Celtic will be looking for Forrest to hit back in style after his Euro snub, with the experienced wide man no doubt looking to show Clarke just what he is missing.
Few could even blame Forrest for backing away from the Scotland setup having failed to make an appearance this summer.
Forrest has suffered injury problems over the years and there could yet be a temptation to call it a day on the international scene in order to prolong his Celtic career for the coming years.
