Chris Sutton has told BBC’s 606 on Sunday evening that if Aaron Ramsey stays fit, then Rangers have the chance to challenge Celtic for the title. The Celtic legend questioned his fitness – but did say he is a “big fan” of Ramsey.
The 31-year-old midfielder made arguably the most-surprising move of the January window, swapping Juventus for Rangers on loan until the end of the season. Rangers have first priority regarding a permanent deal.
Having missed out on Wednesday night’s dismal loss to Celtic at Parkhead, Ramsey was brought on for the last 20 minutes during Sunday’s 5-0 win over Hearts. He showed some nice touches, as Rangers ran riot.
Celtic icon Sutton discussed the signing of Ramsey after his made his debut on Sunday evening – and labelled himself a fan of the “brilliant” Ramsey. But thinks that Rangers will only pose a title threat to Celtic, if he is fit.
“Let’s wait and see,” Sutton said, when asked if he was a good signing for Rangers. “He’s had injury issues. I’m a big fan of Ramsey, a brilliant player over the years. If he does stay fit, Rangers and Celtic have a title race on.”
Sutton on Ramsey: Rangers star could hold the key to pipping Celtic
Celtic are on fire. Everything Ange Postecoglou does seems to be working, his signings have been superb, and the way he has got the Glasgow side playing after just half a season is quite simply, breathtaking.
But Ramsey is an enormous signing and if he can rediscover some of his best form, Rangers are just as good as Celtic. With one point in it, the Gers have every chance – especially with Alfredo Morelos also on fire.
